Gametrailers.com Sucks

They have been faking a lot of their videos recently, mostly due to alleged bribery from video game developers and publishers. Here is evidence.

And another.

They have deleted those videos from their archives. However, their dishonesty is now a proven fact, backed by proof and many disillusioned fans. Their PR has dropped, just like in GameSpot. Don’t they have shame?

Don’t Be Over-Yuppie

One day, I got this comment from this blogger “complaining” about how I write entries relating to stuff that he/she says “isn’t of my own thoughts”. He/she relates to how the Internet and blogging in particular has given us freedom to express ideas and stuff like that. That is well and good until someone becomes a keyboard patriot. Not only does it sound yuppie-ish, but it is also very disconcerting. The thing is that I do get and I actually practice what he/she is preaching in the first place. I did not respond to that particular comment, so you can’t really say that I’m defensive about it.

Another instance is a boyfriend of an artist who thought that representing Filipino culture via a rendition of a girl in a French maid outfit was insulting to the Philippines in general due to the reputation that this country has in western nations. Well, we do deserve it since we actually show it. Stereotypes are made so because a lot of individuals from a culture or nationality do exhibit those traits in the first place. If they were never true, then how can there be a stereotype? Well, I understand the artist’s sentiments. She does have a point, but her boyfriend seems too brave when it comes to defending his girlfriend’s opinion. He even disregarded the history of the said representation and just revved his engine to put down all “detractors”. With comments that had resemblances to War and Peace, he went on to actively argue with other people just prove to everyone that his girlfriend has a point. The thing is that it really is clear, so he never had to actually be an asshole about it. What made it a problem is that he still went on to be an asshole about it.

One thing that bugs me is overpatriotic people who wave the flags of courage behind a keyboard. Anyone can seem strong and boisterous with their artificial cheese flavoring-encrusted fingers while their teeth are busy chewing on a mouthful of Cheetos. Not only that, but the majority of these people are young middle-class jerk-offs who have nothing better to do other than plunging the productivity levels of others by berating them over chat and comments.

It’s good to stand for what you believe in, but if you do so by being an asshole, then you’re just giving people a bad impression about your point of view. I’ve learned this the hard way and I’m making amends by saying that there are simpler and more convincing ways to express opinions. Besides, it’s not like most of us are actually capable of literally taking up arms and fighting for our beliefs in the purest sense, which is against the law. We can only crowd the Internet with our text for now.

Anyone can be a keyboard warrior, but only a handful can back up their talk.

Become One with Fear

If there is something that paralyzes you with fear, then you must learn to strengthen your resolve so that you may someday conquer it. Fear may be a natural part of one’s instinct, but unnatural and irrational fear may serve as a weakness. Huddling up into a fetal position will get you nowhere, but learning to confront it will. It may be easier said than done, but at least it is a more viable solution than total cowardice.

Unnatural fears such as being scared of embarrassment, of people, of residual pain and consequences, of experiences not yet encountered, but required, and so on may lead to disappointing results. Being afraid of these are mostly natural, but becoming debilitated as a result is not. Such fears must be dealt with immediately.

Natural fears, on the other hand, are those intricately fused with survival instincts. If you put a hand directly onto a fire or against something sharp, then it is natural to pull away. This does not denote cowardice for it is a natural response. Natural fears must not be confused with those that are unnatural.

Mental strength is not merely acquired by effortless means. Only through hardship and focused pursuit can one gain fortitude against the adversities in life. By becoming one with fear and modifying natural responses into a method of disarming difficulties can lead to a path towards true mental toughness. If it is required, then it must be endured until it can be resolved.

It is a responsibility towards self to learn how to conquer one’s unnatural fears. Without mastering one’s fears, enlightenment can never be achieved and goals will be nothing more than a distant dream. You must achieve your full potential by overcoming this hurdle so that all of your strengths may be tapped and all of your weaknesses straightened out.

This is a way that leaves neither pity nor remorse behind. As this mortal realm is merciless towards all of its denizens, it is about fighting or fleeing. This plane of existence leaves no one unscathed for Mother Nature punishes all sinful creatures while Father Time slowly decays them. Life is merely a fleeting moment and in no way anyone’s life is safe for it may be ceased at any second. If you were to die right now, how would you feel about your life?

Are you going to regret fearing something that you should have faced?

The Outsiders

All our lives, we have been measured, scaled, graphed and compared to people, counterparts and otherwise. Throughout history, human beings have become nothing more than statistics. Life itself has become nothing more than a charade. It was whether you conformed or resisted. Those who conform are then seen as a viable member of the common society. Those who resisted become known as outsiders. The outsiders who were inferior to them and were shun away from the world as they know it and are constantly treated with disgust and disrespect.

We are the middle children of history with no purpose or place. We have become rejects. Nothing is sacred when it comes to us. We are the targets of scorn and the scapegoats in the very end. We have not been given the respect we should have deserved in the first place. We are treated as such, but we also don’t want to be treated otherwise either. Because we know that out there lies a world full of lies. Everything we see are illusions. It is not a beautiful world out there with people like them running around. We know of the corruption that takes effect in each and every moment time passes. We know of this, so we are rejected. We know a piece of the truth.

We have been conditioned to think that nothing is more important than money and that we must obey our superiors, no matter what they say or do. We were taught that we could be anything we want. All we need was to have a dream and work hard. Such a thing is a dream indeed, because it is a fantasy. Never could we get there ourselves for we are being tricked by the numerous groups of people that run this mortal realm. We are nothing but pawns and we are part of their game of schemes and plots that continue to plague this world’s conscience. The media has conditioned our minds that what we see or hear from it is the universal truth, and that the answer to every question that is related to that matter is supportive of their plans. It is what makes us think the way we do now in this present generation.

We are all living in a lifestyle obsession. We are being driven by what we see on the television, hear on the radio, read in magazines & newspapers, and many more. The many things that are presented become a part of a person’s life and space. It takes control of them with considerable force and precision. Suddenly, a person’s hopes and dreams are scrambled by the considerable amount of doubt surrounding them and becomes replaced by something else that is influenced by this.

We have all forgotten about the significance of our role towards the world. We are here to help the world become a better place to live in, not to merely indulge ourselves with pleasures and luxuries. Some indulge while others build themselves up for some reason. They feed their vanity to fuel their will to live in such an existence. Self-improvement is a good thing, but if it becomes the main focus of one’s existence, turning into obsession, it becomes masturbation, which in turn becomes self-destruction. If we are to better ourselves, it must be for the benefit of our fellow men. Such a thing becomes nonsense when it only chains us to this mortal existence and its materialism.

Hopes and dreams serve as markers of our lives on this earth. They keep us on track throughout this journey. Without them, we are lost and there is no turning back. How can we make these markers more significant than they already are? How can they be used to benefit the lives of other people? How can we all join hands and show society the true meaning of humanity with our actions? The answers lie inside all of us. All we have to do is to chase those hopes and dreams for a better world. They may take fruit if we try hard enough.

We are all human, and life is ending one minute at a time. There is only enough time to prove the power of human potential within all of us and to prove one’s worth to the world. Honor is the highest virtue and balance is the key that unlocks all doors. All we have to do is to work for it with force and will, choosing love over fear to drive us towards the ultimate goal of unity.

We are outsiders, but we are still human.

About Opinion

It seems that personal opinion is a right in a democracy unless it offends someone. Is this how it should be or just a restriction of freedom?

For example, a majority likes this certain thing, but there are some people who don’t for some reason. If they stay quiet, then the majority remain undisturbed. If they do say something about it, then the majority is offended and they are told to shut up. They are told that they are wrong and should be rejected indefinitely.

Now, imagine that you are arrested and thrown in jail without good reason. You protest your incarceration, which is then treated with punishment. The guards then punish your prisonmates as well, since all prisoners are treated as a whole as a way to minimize insubordination. You are seen as a prisoner just like everyone else and only identifiable by a number. You know that you have done nothing wrong and would do everything possible to get out of there. Unfortunately, the other prisoners see you as a troublemaker due to your verbosity. Now, will you crumble under pressure or insist upon your innocence?

What if you were a guard? Your colleagues start abusing the prisoners with both physical and mental torture. You know that it is wrong, but can you protest against your fellow guards? What if it is your superiors who condone it?

It’s like being a child who knows that drug addiction is bad, but can’t really say it out loud since both your parents are addicted. You’d want to stop them, but they beat you down for it. You want to do the right thing, but you can’t stop them.

Against a tyrannical government, do you have the power to resist? You may have a group of rebels fighting for the same cause, but your numbers are inferior to that of the military. You know that your cause is just, but it is either obey or be crushed.

How about a culture that defends its ways with zeal through killing those not of their ilk? Some may attempt persuading them otherwise, but these people are driven by their religion. The world states its concern only to be answered with anger. They continue to wage their holy war, even though the rest of the world suffers.

Scaling things back down, let’s say that you stated a personal opinion, which is shot down because it offended someone. Some think it’s right, while some think it’s wrong. Living in a democratic country is supposed to entail the freedom to express it, but the offended party insists that you shut up.

With these scenarios set, where does opinion stand now?
